The two most common kinds of arthritis are:
• Osteoarthritis Arthritis
• Rheumatoid Arthritis
In addition to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, there are more than 100 conditions physicians consider forms of arthritis. Various com¬mon sprains and strains (tennis elbow, bursitis, ankle sprain, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, even heel and back pain) are included in this category. |

People who have arthritis are more prone to sprains and strains of tendons and ligaments, so it's important to be aware of this risk and to modify or even eliminate physical activities that place you at risk. Swimming, for example, is an excellent alternative to a sport such as soccer or touch football.
Although sprains and strains can be temporarily painful and disabling, they generally heal nicely without the need for extended or complicated medical treatments. In contrast, some uncommon arthritic conditions, left untreated, can pose a serious hazard to your health and can even threaten your life. Some of these rare forms are systemic in nature, affecting multiple organs and even blood vessels. |
